Why Your Nonprofit Needs a Good Social Media Presence
A Guest Blog by Sydney Dippold, the Administrative and Social Media Assistant from Program Savvy Consulting.
The emergence of social media over the last two decades has greatly affected how the world not only absorbs information, but how individuals make decisions with that information.
The public is no longer just relying on a pretty and effective website before forming an opinion about a nonprofit. Often, they will look for another source of information, such as someone they know that is associated with the organization, or social media.
Whether someone chooses to engage with or donate to an organization is often influenced by their experience with a nonprofit on social media. Their social media is an ongoing “elevator pitch” for their mission and activities. If your social media pages are done right, it can be the quickest way to tell someone what your nonprofit does, who it supports, why your organization does what it does, and most importantly, the impact it has on the local, national, or international community.
Social media is also often the source of a first impression formed about an organization. Whether an individual sees a post because a friend shared it, they were targeted for a social media ad, or they simply stumbled upon it on their main feed, a social media post from a nonprofit serves as an introduction and a reinforcement.
And it’s always best practice to put your best foot forward, right?
And one of the most important aspects of social media, is that it is social! If done correctly, an organization’s social media can serve as a community-building platform, where people who have benefited from a nonprofit’s supports can communicate and share their stories with one another, while also allowing future donors and sponsors to see the good work in action.
On top of that, social media can serve as entirely FREE marketing for a nonprofit. And when you are working with an inadequate marketing budget, it’s important to utilize every free resource available.
And that’s why this holiday season, I am offering up to FIVE pieces of content that can be used across your nonprofit’s social media platforms for FREE.
Whether you are looking to promote donation requests, spread awareness of your cause, bring on more volunteers for your events, or anything else, I am here to help, at NO CHARGE to you or your nonprofit organization.
I know social media can fall to the wayside for many nonprofit organizations, which is more than understandable as other client-facing work takes precedence. But, it’s important to remember that your social media is how the people you want to help can find you, as well as how the people who want to help your organization can find you.

Sydney started as an intern at Program Savvy Consulting in 2021, and impressed so much that Mary Beth brought her on as a part-time member of the team. You are most likely to interact with Sydney if scheduling is a part of the work, but there are many behind the scenes contributions she makes as well, including social media strategy and management, and content creation. Sydney is also the Marketing Administrator at Elevate Eyecare, and when not working, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
